Today is my last day of any freshman year obligations. After I finish my Calc 2 exam, I will be officially 25% done with college. So naturally, I did what any good engineering student with an 8AM exam would do. I pulled an all nighter and spent three and a half hours just driving around Nashville. About 70° out, windows down, sunroof open, music blaring. Everything right in the world. While I was out I took some pictures, seen above and at the end, and it was the most calming night I have had in a while. The fact that no one is on the roads here between 1:30 and 5 certainly helps, but last night really centered me back on reality. It was really a great drive. About 80 miles with stops at the Natchez Trace Bridge, Percy Warner Park, and a secret spot of mine. And hey! I averaged 19 mpg! In the Lexus!

Well, he rents from AT&T. Those “miscellaneous” expenses finally caught up to Wayne Enterprises.

Finished my freshman year of engineering school 10 years ago and finished calc 2 for the first time too. It took me two more attempts to pass it.

Congrats and nice looking Lexus!

I’m going to Nashville next month, any off-the-path or not-touristy places you recommend we experience?

I’m on my second attempt and unfortunately it’s a real possibility a third is right around the corner. Fingers crossed though.

Thank you! Ok first of all - you’re on Oppo. Go to the Lane Motor Museum and take the basement tour. What all are you in to? Whether that be types of  food, activities, or whatever. Then I can give you some more suggestions.

I went to college in a small nor thern Michigan town. A 90 second drive away from the campus brings you to back roads, dirt roads, and some windy roads through he forest preserve. I probably took a 2-3 hour drive on those roads at least once a month to clear my head. There were a bunch of scenic bridges and ri verbeds perfect for sitting and thinking. It took me a few rounds to pass all my engineering classes. Took an extra year to finish it all; I called it a victory lap. G lad to see I’m not the only one to do that. Keep up the gre at work buddy!

“ About 70° out, windows down, sunroof open, music blaring.”

I realized this is the only way to drive now. Also, good luck finishing up! A lot of my hard stuff was last week, but I only have one more year. Which is crazy, because I was still in high school on this day two years ago.

I like to experience the things that the locals love, so usually i look for smaller restaurants & bars that wouldn’t necessarily show up in a tour guide. Places that are popular without being packed to the rafters. My gf is slightly hipster-adjacent, so if you know of any coffee shops or local-sourced food places, that’d be appreciated too.

I’ll definitely check out the Motor Museum, I hadn’t heard of it before. I’m going to have my car, so any scenic drives or locations would be awesome. We’re going to do the normal tourist stuff like downtown, Belle Vernon, and take a trip to Lynchburg, but if there are any fabulous outdoors spots, I’d love to experience them.

Fuck Calc 2. I don’t know why Marketing students were required to take it, but I was garbage at it. Nice pictures!

Does your calc 2 include linear algebra?

Sometimes it takes 3 attempts to pass a class, clac 2 took me 3 times and I did graduate, eventually, with an ChemE degree.

When are you coming into town? Might be able to help out.

Lane Mot or Museum

Midtown for Bars

Natchez Trace for Scenic(but slow) drive

Driving in Nolensville area is pretty good(look for squigly lines)

Porkbelly Farmhouse in Nolensville is my absolute favorite spot/I would   be happy to join if I have time

Tailgate Brewery one of the best in Nashville

Take the back way out to Lynchburg

Leipers Fork is best driving around

To ddinTN and I play trivia on Thursdays at Mill Creek if you are here early

Don’t think we’ve got linear algebra.

Linear algebra made it impossible.

Best of luck, what’s your major?

Coffee - Go to Steadfast Coffee in Germantown. My friend works there and they make a mean iced butterscotch latte. Frothy Monkey is also pretty decent.

Food - San Antonio Taco Co. on 21st is a must, and I know it’s weird for a taco place, but their ranch dressing is out of this world. Dip your tacos in it . Emmy Squared in the Gulch has really great Pizza (and a fantastic spicy chicken or chicken parm sandwich) . Edley’s and Martin’s both have pretty good BBQ, even coming from someone from Memphis. M.L. Rose on 8th South or in the gulch has great burgers (my recommendation is the Belgian), so does Burger Republic in the Gulch. Hattie B’s is good, but it’s honestly kin d of overrated hot chicken. Try Bolton’s in Fisk/Meharry or Big Shake’s off 65 in Franklin. If you like Vietnamese, Miss Saigon off Charlotte Pike is good and authentic. The filet mignon phò is quite tasty.

Bars - not really my thing being underage and all, but for the love of God stay off Broadway.

Outdoors/Scenic Stuff - LexusGuy already mentioned the Natchez Trace (go late at nig ht (12-2) and believe me, you do not need to worry about going slow, within your car’s handling limits, of course ). Go do that. It’s great. Percy Warner Park in Brentwood is large, pretty and near-laby rinthine. Good paved walking trails. Likewise, Lake Radnor in Oak Hill is very pretty and has paved walking trails. You could go cliff jumping at Percy Priest lake if that’s your thing. Also, Fall Creek Falls State Park is worth the ~1.5 hr drive southeast. Really freakin cool but pack grippy shoes.

Driving - Be prepared for fairly brutal traffic in rush hour, but the roads clear up at night and are manageable during the rest of the day . If you’re going driving at night though, situational awareness is key. Deer will run out in front of you. I stopped about two feet short of one last night. Like LexusGuy said, roads around Nolensville are pretty good but not well lit and with blind corners, although I guess that goes for pretty much most fun roads around here . “Look for squiggly lines” is about as good of directions as you’d be able to get out of me.

And most importantly, go to the Lane. Hope you have a great time and I’d love to hear which suggestions you take and what you think of them!

Taylor/M acLaurin made it impossible for me last semester, and Mechanical Engineering.

Taylor series helped me pass that class. Ga Tech wanted to include linear algebra to make it really hard.

Hopefully you passed this time.

Hopefully so. I’m actually feeling a mid B to a high C on the final but the rest of my performance this year has been lacking.
